CROCHET PROJECTS | Easy No Sew, No Button Earsavers
Hello everyone! Here's a new tutorial for all of you. It is a super fun and easy pattern for CROCHETED EARSAVERS
This is a super simple project that you can make with your small balls of yarn. They are very functional and you can use them everyday as we are now mandated to wear masks or you can donate them to frontliners in your area.
Now what are earsavers you might ask. Well, they were designed to hold the ear straps of surgical masks (or any face mask with elastic loops). Nowadays, our frontliners are working around the clock and have to wear their masks all the time. These help in alleviating the stress of the elastics on their ears.
Here is what it looks like on a mask:
This is an adjustable version that can be tightened, and can secure the elastics since it locks around the two loops and is buttoned.
Since we're all under lockdown here in the Philippines, I wasn't able to get buttons. So, I made some on my own! These crocheted bobbles are pretty sturdy and add a different look to the earsavers.
- size 4 worsted weight yarn (preferably 100% cotton) Here I am using 12ply hand-dyed cotton
- 4.00mm crochet hook for the body
- 3.75mm crochet hook for the button
- scissors
- tapestry needle
Main body
Chain 55
- dc into the 9th chain from the hook, (dc 2, sk2 stitches, dc into 3rd stitch) repeat until you have a total of 5 button holes.
- dc all the way until the end and bind off
Crochet Button
- leaving a long tail of about 4 to 5 inches, 12 sc into magic ring, pull to tighten enough that there is a gap in the middle, but that the last stitch and the first stitch are beside each other.
- sc 14 into the gap in the center of the ring (not into the stitches). By doing this you are crochet OVER the first round of sc.
- ss into the first sc of the round, bind off and hide the end into the back of the button so that it is opposite the end that is made from the magic ring.
I recently pledged to donate some earsavers to this cool community I learned about called Earsavers for Lifesavers PH. If you are in the Philippines, do consider helping out with this cause. You can find more information here:
